Stuart Alan Saunders
Stuart joined Gochenour Law Firm, P. L.C. in 2016. He has more than 20 years of litigation experience, devoting his practice to criminal defense. For the past decade, Stuart served as a public defender for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Indigent Defense Commission.
Stuart Alan Saunders graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964. He earned his law degree from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Law in 1967.
From 1967 to 1998, Stuart served as an associate and partner in various law firms before branching out on his own via Stuart Saunders Attorney of Law, P.C. in 1998. There, he representing clients in criminal matters, family law, and personal injury.
During his career, Stuart has devoted his time and professional skills to a passion of his—helping battered women. He provided advocacy to individuals in The Transitions Battered Women’s Shelter and conducted seminars on family law to help victims better understand how the law can help them leave an abusive spouse, seek child support, obtain protective orders, and achieve sole possession of their homes.
In 2005, Stuart made a significant shift in his career path, serving as the assistant public defender for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Indigent Defense Commission. There, he was the primary representative for individuals charged with serious felonies and misdemeanors. He has successfully represented clients and won nearly 100 percent of jury trials.
Stuart is a member of the Virginia State Bar Association, as well as the Hampton Bar Association.
